Description

SGM plays a dynamic role in increasing public engagement with microbiology to a wide range of audiences, both directly and by supporting the activities of its members who are professional microbiologists. The Society promotes microbiology education at all levels from schools through to universities and colleges and runs an outreach programme to take microbiology to the general public. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible and self-motivated life sciences graduate to take a lead in expanding our outreach and education activities throughout the UK.

This varied job includes:

  • creating and disseminating educational resources
  • contributing to the new MicrobiologyOnline website
  • organising practical microbiology workshops
  • running a wide range of science promotion events and supporting SGM members??? activities to raise the profile of microbiology.
  • There is also the opportunity to contribute to our award-winning magazine, Microbiology Today.

The post involves considerable travel within the UK.

The post is permanent and will be based in Spencers Wood, near Reading.

Key Attributes

  • a sound knowledge of microbiology or molecular biology (degree level)
  • good IT, oral and written communication skills
  • excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • initiative and accuracy
  • experience in science communication is essential
  • awareness of the UK science curricula would be useful


Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within the range ??22,753 – ??27,930.
