Sense About Science is a charitable trust to equip people to make sense of science and evidence. Working with around 4,000 supporting scientists, from Nobel Laureates to postdocs, we respond to the misrepresentation of science and scientific evidence on issues that matter to society. We handle science-related questions from any social group; and develop relationships, publications and initiatives to challenge misconceptions.
We have a vacancy for the role of Development Officer. The role involves:
??? Writing proposals and reports for partnership activities and funding
??? Helping to organise a fundraising campaign for the development of Sense About Science???s programme of work for the next five years, including arranging meetings, writing and maintaining supportive material and impact analysis
??? Organising and giving talks at international events and maintaining international partnerships
??? Identifying suitable opportunities for partnerships, events and joint activities
??? Liaising with a wide range of organisations involved in science, medicine, philanthropy and civil society, in the UK and other countries.
It???s a busy, lively office where we all muck in and no two days are ever the same. You need to be able to plan well but adapt quickly. As well as a passion for science, good team spirit and an appetite for responsibility, you will need:
??? A good degree, or higher, in a science subject
??? An ability to meet deadlines and plan clearly
??? Very good writing skills
??? A broad understanding of debates about science, medicine and public
attitudes and a keen interest in civic engagement
??? Confidence and a high standard of presentation
Starting salary c.??21K. Holiday 20 days (plus bank hols, Christmas break and one day for every year worked)
Central London location (W1)
Ideally the successful candidate will be in post by September 2010.
