Climate Science Information Officer


Salary: ??16,631 – ??19,566 Enterprise terms. Six-month fixed-term contract.

Closing Date: 12/07/2010

This is a unique opportunity to manage the high volume of information requests we expect to receive when our new Climate Science Gallery opens later this year. If you are fascinated by the debate on climate change, and skilled in dealing with complex enquiries and managing the records associated with these, then you may be ideal for this role.

The successful applicant will need to be in post by early to mid September.

SELECT RESPONSIBILITIES (please see the job description for fuller details)

??? Coordinate a large number of requests (from all communication channels) for information about the climate science project, to ensure an efficient and legally compliant record and management service congruent with national museum and non-departmental public body status in accordance with NMSI policy;
??? Using an electronic Enquiries Management System, ensure that:
o all requests for information are logged and filed so that they can be easily accessed and cross-referenced to show trends and on-going dialogue; and
o all responses are accurate and appropriate; the response is signed by the appropriate person; the response is logged and filed so it they can be easily accessed and cross-referenced to show trends and on-going dialogue.
??? Formulate the responses to all enquiries (from a variety of sources i.e. letter, web, phone, web blogs and in person) in collaboration with the content team, other experts and stakeholders. Ensure the responses are accurate, consistent and issued in a timely manner and within the deadlines specified by legislation (where appropriate);
??? Liaise with Press & Marketing regarding content and responses on blogs and other electronic media;
??? Liaise with colleagues and stakeholders across the Museum to ensure consistent communication about the climate science project is issued and colleagues are well informed;


??? Experience in (or familiarity with) core records management;
??? Experience of working in a confidential and sensitive environment; and
??? Experience of working methodically with an analytical approach to problem solving, taking the initiative within policy and precedent.
??? Strong coordination and delivery skills;
??? An awareness of Freedom of Information legislation and an appreciation of their practical impact on NMSI as a non-departmental public body;
??? Good working knowledge of standard information technology packages and their applications;
??? Ability to handle complex information requests in a considered and methodical way;
??? Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines;
??? Good editing and writing skills;
