We???re looking for an enthusiastic undergraduate to join and award-winning Policy and Communications team, working on a variety of communications activities that support our vital and life saving work throughout the UK. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience being a part of a major national charity and really make a difference as well as gain new skills and experience.

You???ll contribute on our Hearty Lives programme, which contributes to our vital and life saving work throughout the UK by helping people within deprived communities to reduce their risk of heart disease, and to support those already living with it. You???ll be responsible for supporting a variety of communications activities for the Hearty Lives programme including:
–       writing and proofing copy for staff newsletters, Heart Health magazine, website, staff intranet and Hearty Lives extranet
–       managing the development of marketing materials such as brochures and posters
–       providing press support, including arranging photography and collating case studies
–       ad hoc administration support

In return, you will experience being a part of a major national charity and have the opportunity to develop key communications skills and experience as well as really make a difference to supporting our vital work in the community. The knowledge and skills you could expect to develop are:
??         Understanding of how the Policy and Communications team in a national charity works
??         Knowledge of different communications channels and how these can be used to achieve programme objectives
??         Core skills relating to press activity, including writing for a range of audiences and mediums
??         Experience producing marketing and other communications materials
??         Understanding of how an organisation operates a UK-wide programme to support communities
??         Awareness of tools and systems used for communications activity, such as press coverage tracking and case study 
??         Listening and influencing skills in an organisational context
??         Experience of working as part of a dynamic team in a busy office environment

You will be hard-working, self-motivated and have excellent written and interpersonal communications skills. You will have a keen attention to detail and your creative attitude will allow you to find different ways to achieve optimal results. You will be interested in a variety of communications channels, including media, publications and online, as well as how these can be used to help reach a wide range of communities and key influencers. 

Creative ideas and knowledge of communicating gained through other work experience or university study would be an advantage. Your ability to manage your time and to work from your own initiative, along with your positive can-do attitude, will help to ensure you are successful in providing a high level of communications support. Above all, applicants should be passionate about helping others and have an interest in working for the nation???s heart charity. 

The Internship is only available to undergraduates (or equivalent) and is for up to 20 hours per week for a 3 – 6 month period, with the opportunity to extend.  It is unpaid, but expenses including lunch and travel will be paid.
