[Job] Breast Cancer Care, Press & PR Officer, ??29.5k, clos 16 Aug #scicomm-ish jobs

Previous jobs posted, from Breast Cancer Care, can be found below this advert.

As the word ‘science’ doesn’t actually feature in the job description I’ve downgraded (well, re-graded I suppose) this as a ‘scicomm-ish’ sort of job. But it gets in because I think it would be the sort of job a science communicator might enjoy, and you’ll be working with an organisation that does most definitely communicate science, as pretty much all medical health charities do in one way or another.

The job application is available on the website in the link given below.

  • Six month fixed term contract
  • 35 hours per week
  • Based in London
  • NJC Grade D, point 31
  • ??29,575 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting)
Breast Cancer Care is here for anyone affected by breast cancer. We bring people together, provide information and support, and campaign for improved standards of care. We use our understanding of people’s experience of breast cancer and our clinical expertise in everything we do.

We are looking for a Press and PR Officer to take up a wide-ranging portfolio for a fixed-term six month period to raise the profile of Breast Cancer Care by working on projects both UK wide and region-specific.

The Press and PR officer (policy, campaigning and services) will be responsible for creating and securing quality media coverage for Breast Cancer Care???s work and priorities both reactively and proactively (including its flagship work around secondary breast cancer, other campaigning, awareness and services marketing initiatives) to help increase public awareness of the Breast Cancer Care brand, to influence opinion formers and to help drive clients to the charity???s services.

With significant and relevant experience of working in a busy press office, PR agency or as a journalist you will have a good understanding of the way the media works at national, regional, trade and consumer level, with a proven track record of success.
As an extremely proactive self-starter, with the ability to spot, maximise and follow through media opportunities and solutions you will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in creating press materials and report writing with the confidence to negotiate expectations and outcomes in an extremely busy environment with changing priorities.
