BioMed Central, a leading open access publisher of more than 200 peer-reviewed journals, is looking for motivated, highly talented, creative individuals to join our editorial team.

The main purpose of the job will be to optimise the publishing service and increase submissions for a set of journals within a specific biomedical area, through the execution of journal development work and by supporting our external clients. Communication is a key part of this role.

Main duties:

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Editors-in-Chief, Handling Editors, and society contacts.
  • Work with Editors-in-Chief to prepare new journals for launch and to improve existing journals.
  • Liaise with other internal departments to plan and implement tasks.
  • Be required to travel internationally.

Person specification:

  • A biomedical degree or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills, and attention to detail.
  • A positive, can-do approach to problem-solving in both daily tasks and more complex troubleshooting.
  • Computer literacy, with experience of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Able to represent BioMed Central at external events.
  • Experience of communicating effectively with senior scientists would be an advantage.
