Summer Placement – Scientific Publishing

Job Purpose

This is a great opportunity to gain experience over an 8-12 week period of working with dynamic journals teams and academics to ensure the RSC publishes leading journals for the chemical science community worldwide. 

Day to day activities

  • Correcting journal articles to ensure clarity.
  • Publication of journal articles online.
  • Delivering an excellent service to authors and customers and maintaining the RSC’s reputation for the fastest publication times in the chemical sciences.         

Essential Skills and qualifications

  • A background in science (minimum of A-level Chemistry) is essential, as well as either studying towards or having completed a degree. 
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills are required.
  • Good communication skills in interacting with internal and external contacts. 
  • Ability to work well as a team. 
  • Experience using standard email and Microsoft Office packages        

If you are currently studying science and want to find out more about scientific publishing and the RSC then consider applying for our summer work placements. You will need to email your CV and a covering letter to the HR team (contact details below) detailing why you are suitable for the position and the dates you are available to work. 

We will hold an assessment exercise in May or early June. Places will be limited so please send your application as soon as possible. Confirmation of your place will be emailed to you. At the assessment you will have the opportunity to find out more about working at the RSC and we will ask you to complete an assessment exercise. The positions will start in June or July and duration will be 8-12 weeks.

Based in Cambridge, UK. Salary ??8ph. Close date for applications: 1 May 2011. 

Please note that interview expenses will not be paid and you will need to find your own accommodation for the duration of the placement.
