An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and ambitious media relations expert to join our busy media team and build a strong media profile for our national and devolved policy positions and campaigns.
We are the Parkinson’s support and research charity. For more than 40 years we’ve been working to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.
We are looking for someone with a real nose for news and a sound understanding of the health and social care agendas. Excellent organisation skills and extensive experience of dealing with the media are a must, as is the ability to work sensitively with case studies.
You will be responsible for identifying potential news stories, turning them into eye-catching news releases to generate positive coverage, identifying opportunities for Parkinson’s UK comment, and building relations internally to improve the quality of PR.
Skills knowledge and experience
To be successful, you will have demonstrable expertise of proactively securing media coverage for issues and campaigns and handling reactive enquiries.
You will have expertise of translating policy issues into news, writing for to a wide range of audiences and building contact with national and local broadcast, print and online media.
Expertise in charity or healthcare PR would be a distinct advantage, but is not essential. You will require a high level of communication skills, both written and verbal, and be happy writing both long and short body copy to tight timescales.
On a personal level, you must be articulate, have excellent organisation skills and an eye for detail.
