Job location: Home-based, London and the Home Counties

Salary: ??12,500 per annum 18 hours a week

Unique provides a specialist information and support service to families affected by rare chromosomal disorders (RCDs) and the professionals working with them. Recent rapid growth in membership and the resultant demand for our core services has led the Trustees to seek a part-time Information Officer (Family Support).

Working principally with the CEO and the Family Support Officer, you will provide support and information to families living with any RCD, cover for the CEO as the first contact point for new families and be a contact for existing members and professionals. In responding to queries, you will use information from our comprehensive database, as well as researching various published materials.

Highly motivated and flexible, you will have a good understanding of human genetics (especially RCDs) and medical terminology. Good IT and excellent communication skills are essential. Experience of counselling families with genetic disorders with an uncertain outcome and of prenatal counselling is desirable, as is empathy with, and a good understanding of, the issues Unique families face.

The position is home-based, 18 hours per week throughout the calendar year, usually during normal office hours. The annual salary is ??12,500. You may occasionally be required to attend external meetings outside your normal working hours. We will provide IT and communication tools and you will need suitable space within your home to work and store personal data securely.

Unique has members globally but is based in Surrey, UK so we seek candidates from London and the Home Counties. This is a 12 month fixed-term post with the possibility of an extension as funding permits. For more about Unique please visit www.rarechromo.org.

Applications in writing, with full CV, to Craig Mitchell, Chief Operating Officer, on email at craig@rarechromo.org or by post to Unique, PO Box 2189, Caterham, Surrey, CR3 5GN, by 5pm on Tuesday, 30th August 2011. Interviews will take place during September.
