The Francis Crick Institute will be a leading centre of biomedical research. It will promote connections between researchers and their disciplines, and between academic institutions, healthcare organisations and businesses. Dedicated to research excellence, the Institute will have the scale, vision and expertise to tackle the most challenging scientific questions underpinning health and disease.
Due to open in 2015, The Francis Crick Institute is a charity founded by the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK, the Wellcome Trust and UCL (University College London). It will be world-class with a strong national role – training scientists and developing ideas for public good.
Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, the Education Outreach Officer will develop and implement The Crick’s science education programme for schools, CPD for teachers, and engagement opportunities for adult audiences.
You will several years’ experience as a science educator and be passionate about engaging the public with scientific research. You should have experience of developing science education/outreach programmes and of working either in or with schools, gained in a teaching or outreach role. We will expect you to have a good knowledge of how schools operate, the challenges both science educators and scientists face in their work, and strategies to engage hard-to-reach audiences.
You will be an excellent communicator with creative ideas for showcasing the Institute’s work. You should have a first degree in a relevant scientific discipline, and a suitable postgraduate qualification such as a PGCE, and/or an MA or MSc in Science Communication or a related discipline.
