Hours: 9.00am ??? 5.30pm  (JDRF operates a flexible working hours policy)          

Salary: ??20,550

Holiday: 25 days plus statutory holidays pro rata.

Location: Based in Angel, London, EC1V

Reports To: Head of Public Affairs, Press Officer

 

Key Internal Relationships:                                

Director of Policy & Communications, Head of Public Affairs, Press Officer, Research Relations Manager, Marketing assistant,

Regional Development Manager, JDRF International Communications & Research staff   

Key External Relationships:      

National, regional, trade and consumer media, Government  Officials, Members of Parliament, Peers, JDRF

supporters and fundraisers, families with type 1 diabetes, scientists and researchers, PR and PA practitioners in other charities

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

???           To support the work of JDRF???s political campaigns and advocacy work both nationally and locally  

???           To work with Press Officer to further develop and maintain the charity???s press office by building productive relationships with journalists and other media contacts to position JDRF as ???the voice of type 1 diabetes???

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

???           To assist  the Press Officer in developing press releases and managing reactive media opportunities 

???           To develop and update comprehensive political and media contact lists

???           To support Press Officer in maintaining database of type 1 diabetes case studies, which can be used to position JDRF as an effective advocate of their concerns in media

???           To research policy and position statements and other relevant information

???           To prepare briefs for the senior management team of press and public affairs issues

???           Establishing and maintaining two-way communication with relevant official bodies and stakeholders; answering enquiries from media, politicians and other organisations, often via telephone and email.

???           To draft correspondence with parliamentarians and stakeholders.

???           Monitoring information sources produced by: Hansard and Dods ;; think-tanks; non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other bodies in order to keep informed of any developments related to diabetes and medical research environment

???           Drafting parliamentary questions, briefings for debates and amendments to legislation 

???           To identify opportunities and draft responses to parliamentary, government and other consultations 

???           Responding to requests for information

???           Attending external meetings as required e.g. select committee hearings, party conferences and APPGs

???           To be responsible for organising events for the press and public affairs teams

???           To develop and maintain, with other members of the Communications Department JDRF???s website and the charity???s magazine, Type 1 Discovery

???           To assist Press Officer with Social media activity on Twitter and Facebook
