Main purpose of role:?? ????

To communicate relevant research findings including the results of Muscular Dystrophy Campaign???s research into muscle disease to service users and other stakeholders of the charity

To develop models for engaging service users into research matters with a focus on identifying their information needs????

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Monitor and identify scientific advances relevant to muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions.
  • Access research information from a variety of information resources such as Pubmed.
  • Identify key current relevant topics that should be published on the research pages of the charity???s website.
  • Write and edit Target Research – a quarterly magazine that is solely dedicated to research advances and updates related to muscle disease.
  • Manage a team of volunteer young scientists to write lay summaries of clinical trials for the website.
  • Responsible for the provision of information in response to research enquiries.
  • Attend conferences and events and present on behalf of charity.
  • Work closely with the communications and fundraising teams to provide expert advice when required.
  • Assist the communications team in producing research information materials for lay external audiences.
  • Responsible for keeping the research pages of MDC up-to-date and work with the online manager to improve the research section of the website.
  • Work closely with the Head of Grants to update communications channels so that it reflects the wide variety of the research funded by the charity.
  • Responsible for the development of other communication channels e.g. Facebook, Twitter.
  • Manage and develop ???Talk Research??? ??? our already established committee of people directly or indirectly affected by muscle disease. In particular, this involves consultation on research information needs and preferences.??
