Salary: ca ??26,000 depending on experience + benefitsThe Royal Society, the UK???s national science academy, is seeking two science policy advisers to work in its dynamic Science Policy Centre on a wide-range of policy issues relevant to the UK, EU and global policy-making communities. The Policy Advisers will work predominantly on either research and innovation policy, or education policy.?? Research and innovation policy will involve activities relating to the funding and governance of research, the relationship between science and government, and assessing the success of the UK in its goal to be a successful innovation led knowledge economy. The Policy Adviser will be working on a project which will monitor the health of the UK science base in the run up to the next Spending Review. This study will form the basis of discussion with Government, industry, academia and the broader community, on the role of science and innovation in fostering economic growth and the good of society. The Policy Adviser will work on a broad range of issues, undertaking research, drafting papers and reports, providing support to expert committees, organising events and developing and promoting the Society???s policy positions. Education policy will focus on delivery of the ambitions set out in the Society???s new strategic plan, focusing in particular on a project to develop a vision for science and mathematics education. This ambitious new project sets out an evidence-based approach to building a world-class, high-performing education system for 5???19 year olds particularly in science and mathematics. Using international comparisons, the project will help ensure the UK has a scientifically and mathematically literate population as well as a skill set to help solve the many challenges the world faces in the coming decades. The Policy Adviser will support this timely project, helping to service a high-level advisory group, undertaking research, drafting papers and reports, organising events and developing and promoting the Society???s policy positions.
