British Ecological Society (BES)

Vacancies for Grants Committee

The BES has recently conducted a review of it's grants schemes and as part of this review has decided to reform Grants Committee, we therefore have vacancies for up to four new members.

The Society provides grants to promote excellent ecological research, help fund training and travel and to communicate the science of ecology as widely as possible. In recent years, over ??200,000 per annum has been awarded through the various Society grants.

Grants Committee is directly responsible for the decision making process with regards to grant applications received by the BES. It is also responsible for setting the annual budget and reviewing the strategic aims.

Membership of the committee is 3 years and can be renewed for an additional 3 to 6 years. The committee meets twice a year to discuss applications ??? early Nov and mid-April and although the majority of applications will have been seen by a reviewer not involved in Grants Committee, Committee members will need to spend some time considering applications due for discussion prior to the meeting. The meetings will usually take place at Charles Darwin House and all reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.

If you would like further detail about the work of the committee please contact the Committee Chair or the BES Project Officer. Applications should include a CV and brief summary of your interest in the work of the committee.

Deadline for applications: 2nd September 2012.
