ISIS is a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford in the United Kingdom. Our suite of neutron and muon instruments allows the properties of materials to be understood at the scale of atoms.?? We support a national and international community of more than 2000 scientists for research into subjects ranging from clean energy and the environment, pharmaceuticals and health care, through to nanotechnology, materials engineering and IT, as well as fundamental physics and chemistry investigations.

We require a communications professional with experience within a science environment to be responsible for leading and developing our communications activities.?? In particular, there is a constant need to turn the science done at ISIS by our user community into stories and case studies which demonstrate the impact that the ISIS facility is having to a wide variety of stakeholders.??

This will require working with our team of 70 in-house scientists, together with members of the external scientific community, to research and develop news items, press releases, presentations, etc. You will work with other communications staff within the Science and Technology Facilities Council on all aspects of ISIS communications activities. In addition, you will work with ISIS management on internal and external communications more generally, and you will take responsibility for developing content for the ISIS website and for managing and hosting regular tours of the facility by the general public and schools.

The impact agenda is a key issue in public sector research and continues to be high on the Government???s agenda. Delivery of impact evidence is of significant importance to STFC and a critical factor in attracting Government funding.

In addition to contributing to fundamental scientific knowledge, a large proportion of the science carried out at ISIS maps directly onto the UK???s key scientific priorities including energy, environment, health, information technology and security.
