An eight week temporary vacancy for a Media Analyst has arisen within the Communications Team at the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH). CEH, part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) is the UK’s Centre of Excellence for integrated research in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere.
Main purpose of post
The Media Analyst will work within our Communications Team which delivers a range of knowledge exchange activities including events, publications, design, media relations, and social media. The Communications Team also works on stakeholder relations with CEH’s Business Development team
The person appointed to the new post will carry out an analysis of both conventional and new digital media impact of CEH science during 2012, in the context of the open, digital society in which we now work. The person will compare the impact with analyses from previous years and data from other NERC centres.
The analysis will involve assessing the impacts of both reactive and proactive communications activities, including audiences reached, and comparing CEH website traffic figures with media activities. It will include an assessment of the impact of social media activities on conventional media reporting and identify strategies for increasing impact across the digital spectrum.
The analysis will conclude with a series of recommendations for future media relations activities, including enhanced ways of measuring impact such as increased reputation, better engaged stakeholder communities, and knowledge exchange. The postholder may also be involved in reviewing and recommending changes to the engagement tools that have previously, or could, increase the impact of CEH science.
