Publications Assistant, Part-Time (Req. #2108) (Full Time)

Location: Washington DC

The American Association for the Advancement of Science seeks a part-time Publications Assistant to provide editorial and communications support for EurekAlert!, an online news service of AAAS.

This is a part-time regular position (20 hours/week).

Major duties and responsibilities:

Updates the EurekAlert! web site with press releases and other resources
Writes, edits and proofreads print and online material
Assists in the development of new online resources, which includes a news site for children’s reporters
Evaluates access applications from reporters and other site visitors
Assists web site customers via phone and e-mail
Provides general administrative and organizational support
Assists with special projects as assigned

Minimum qualifications:

Position requires extensive university or college level training leading to a Bachelor’s degree in science, journalism, communications or another related field
Two to three years experience: professional experience in proofreading and editing print and online documents; administrative and editorial/publishing experience
Technology skills in contemporary software packages, namely MS Office Suite; word processing abilities and internet proficiency
Knowledge of HTML is preferred
Excellent writing and editing skills; understanding of publishing issues and procedures
Multi-language abilities a plus
