UCL – University College London
Lecturer in Science Communication – Ref:1320630
Job description: 216552
UCL Department / Division: Science and Technology Studies
Hours: Full Time
Salary (inclusive of London allowance): £36,064 – £39,132 per annum
Duties and Responsibilities
Science and Technology Studies at UCL is an inter-disciplinary department which is active in teaching and research in contemporary science and technology studies (including (a) science policy and governance, (b) science communication, engagement, and evaluation, and (c) sociology of science), as well as integrated history and philosophy of science.
The successful candidate is expected to complete outstanding research and to teach courses in science communication. The field of expertise within the subject is open, but we have a strong preference for the convergence of two types of expertise: (1) science communication and public engagement in the sphere of science writing, and (2) expertise in science and technology studies as they relate to the natural sciences, as practiced at UCL. The duties of the post will include teaching on the department’s undergraduate and graduate programmes, supervising graduate students and contributing to administrative, pastoral, and engagement activities in the department.
Applicants are required to demonstrate expertise in science communication, public engagement and science and technology studies. Applicants must hold or expect to hold by the time of appointment a PhD in an appropriate field (such as science communication, journalism or communication more generally, science and technology studies), and be able to demonstrate their ability to conduct high quality research. Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to high-quality teaching and to fostering a positive learning environment for students. For further details of the requirements of the role please consult the person specification and job description.
For informal enquiries, please contact Prof. Joe Cain (Head of Department and Chair of Search Committee) by phone on 020 7679 3041, or by email at J.Cain@ucl.ac.uk.
