Salary: Up to £90,000 plus benefits

Hours:  35 per week

Contract type: Permanent

Over 800,000 people live with dementia in the UK today. And by 2021 more than one million will be affected. Alzheimer’s Society wants to be there for every one of them, improving their quality of life. But more than that, we want to make sure their voices are heard and their needs understood.

We need someone to help us make a significant difference to lives of people affected by dementia.

This is no small challenge. The leadership and management of the Society’s external affairs and public policy activities, including the direction of media and campaigning work, will be your responsibility. Quite simply, you will be accountable for raising awareness of dementia and ensuring the reputation of the Society, its staff, volunteers and those using its services are accurately and actively promoted.

Key to your success will be the development of outstanding communications, policy, public affairs, stakeholder relations and marketing teams – which will include the active involvement of people with dementia – along with the vision needed to identify and foster key partnerships across the UK and further afield. The team will be the envy of the voluntary sector.

To succeed in this high profile role a background in health and social care may be an advantage but you must be experienced in delivering the strategic communications activities applicable to a leading charity – although experience within the voluntary sector is not essential. You will also need to demonstrate proven expertise in building external relationships, together with outstanding presentation and communication skills, including experience of giving interviews to the media.
