A special treat – jobs at Linnean society seem to be as rare as Gallus gallus domesticus‘ teeth.
Events and Communications Manager
The Linnean Society of London – Events and Communications Manager (£25-28k)
The Linnean Society’s purpose as a living forum for biology is to communicate scientific ideas and advances, embracing the entire sweep of natural history, but focusing on themes such as biological diversity, evolution, taxonomy, science policy and conservation.
The Society works through a network of partnerships in the scientific and education community, collaborating with government and international institutions and schools to highlight the urgency and magnitude of the task of understanding the natural world.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a creative individual for the role of Events and Communication Manager (joining the small team based in Burlington House, Piccadilly, London), who will be responsible for co-ordinating the Society’s varied programme of day and evening events and managing the Society’s website, interacting with our diverse Fellowship and the general public, using a variety of communication tools.
A particular focus for this position will be to develop the Society’s marketing materials, to help the Society widen participation in events, to build the Fellowship and to increase awareness. There will also be the opportunity to become involved in the Society’s education initiatives, assisting with the development of educational resources.
You will likely be a science graduate with a flair for design and a passion for natural history. You must have excellent interpersonal skills coupled with proven organisational and administration skills, able quickly and confidently to develop collaborative working relationships, both within the Society and with external partners. Your creative skills should be underpinned by experience of using InDesign and Photoshop. Desirable skills include experience of website CMS systems and filming and editing podcasts of events.
