The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes. Our mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. We have a long and distinguished history of research with a major impact on the outcome for cancer patients. Our unique partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (RMH) makes us the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, performing high quality original basic research and translational studies. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Professor Alan Ashworth FRS, we are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world.
The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is keen to build a public profile to match its scientific reputation, and has been busy establishing a new communications team, and preparing to relaunch its website.
We are looking for a Science Writer to write news, features and staff profiles for our current website and intranet, and to prepare a wide variety of digital content for the new site scheduled to be launched in the Spring. We’re looking for someone with the ability to understand complex scientific information, theories and practices, and the talent to write engaging, interesting and concise copy. And this is a web writing role, so we would expect the successful candidate to understand digital communication, and have experience of writing for the web.
The successful candidate will have experience of writing copy for websites and print publications, and a demonstrable ability to tailor style and tone for a variety of audiences. Experience with publishing and editing web pages via a content management system would be a major advantage. You will need excellent attention to detail, and to be sufficiently organised to manage complex review procedures with senior stakeholders, and to meet strict deadlines. Most of all you will need to be enthusiastic, and to relish the chance to communicate clearly and engagingly about complex technical topics.
This appointment is full-time, on a six-month contract. Please send in a CV and covering letter, by 29 November 2013.
