Based at: Unit 4D, Leroy House, 436 Essex Road, London N1 3QP
Term: Full-time (35 hours a week), fixed term for six months, may be extended subject to funding and performance.
Salary: £25,500 per annum.
Genetic Alliance UK is the national charity working to improve the lives of individuals, patients and families affected by all types of genetic conditions. We are an alliance of over 160 patient organisations. Our aim is to ensure that high quality services, information and support are provided to all who need them. We actively support research and innovation across the field of genetic medicine.
We have an exciting job opportunity for an individual with experience and skills in science communication and public engagement in biomedical science. We are looking for a self-starter who works creatively with initiative and enthusiasm to deliver high quality work within agreed timescales.
The successful candidate will be a team player who will lead on the development and delivery of a series of innovative engagement activities that inform, provoke debate and discussion on issues relating to medical innovation. They include: controversial issues in basic biomedical research, the application of next generation DNA sequencing in the NHS and neurological enhancements. Our target audiences are individuals and families living with genetic conditions, patient groups and medical research charities. Engagement and consultation activities will involve a variety of methods including face-to-face meetings and workshops, smartphone & online apps, webinars and live chat. Work will be in close collaboration with the policy team to ensure results and recommendations generated from our engagement activities will be suitable to directly inform and influence health and science policy.
