Would you like to enhance your skillset in Science Communication by learning how to visualise complex concepts? Can you identify with making the best Chemistry education available totally free to hundreds of thousands of learners around the world? If so, apply for this paid internship with our non-profit Education programme “The Virtual School”.

Your project: Science Media Production for “The Chemistry Journey”

For 4 months, you’ll become part of a creative design team that joins forces with great Science teachers to co-create “The Chemistry Journey”. This team will co-create 300 learning videos (2-3 min each) to cover the GCSE Chemistry Curriculum. These free videos will be published on our YouTube Edu Channel and distributed under a Creative Commons license to children in poorer areas of the UK and learners in developing countries!

The training:

You’ll receive in-depth training & skills development in media production, visual design, video editing and social media. You will be trained in Fusion Universal’s innovative digital design techniques to gain the ability to bring to life concepts & ideas through visualisation. The training & professional development experience will be delivered by Fusion Universal.

Your tasks:

Your team will produce graphics and animations for the Chemistry Journey project. You will:

  • interpret teacher explanations
  • create visualisation storyboards
  • publish media on the web
  • inform the Public about the Chemistry Journey through Social media and Press outreach

Your qualifications:

Essentials:

  • Degree / currently enrolled in Science Communications or Science Education studies
  • Strong understanding of GCSE Chemistry
  • You have a high attention to detail
  • A visual mind, enabling you to clearly communicate ideas & concepts
  • Creativity & strong desire to learn
  • Familiar with Graphic Design Software
  • Excellent English Language skills
  • Creativity & strong desire to learn

Highly relevant but not essential:

  • Experienced in audio & video editing, motion graphics, and/or screencasts
  • Proficiency in video editing
  • Experienced in the use of PowerPoint
  • You are a team player experience in graphic design, illustration or animation
  • Experience making videos, motion graphics, and/or screencasts

App. Deadline: April 14th, 2013 – 23.30h
Starting date: training starts on April 15th
Project Start: May 1st
Duration: 4 months
Location: Shoreditch, London

Note: The programme is open to those in employment, in study programmes, the self-employed & those available for work, including graduates & unemployed.

Closing Date: Wednesday, 17th April 2013
Eligibility: You MUST be eligible to work in the UK before applying for this position.
